Nothing New Under the Sun… was HIV here before ?…

Aside from nurturing our spiritual well being, we need to  also be alert and conscientious about our physical wellness – as part of a holistic approach . Aside from the need to be constantly vigilant about our diet, our environment, our food and water supply, we are  faced with other factors – or threats – as well, such as epidemics and the emergence of threatening diseases on humanity.

One of the biggest problems on the planet, among these  serious threats, is the HIV virus.

‘The next great war will start inside us. ‘In the next stage of evolution, mankind is history’.

Greg Bear, Darwin’s Radio  (The Daily Galaxy)

What a disturbing thought.

It appears from the latest findings of Dr Aris Katzourakis, (Oxford’s Department of Zoology and the Institute for Emergent Infections, James Martin 21st Century School), that an ancient  HIV like  virus has been found in prehistoric fossils.  The retroviruses that later gave rise to the HIV virus have actually been here for 100 million years!

The fact that the ancestors of complex retroviruses like HIV have been around since prehistoric times helps todays scientists understand even more about their behavior.  Hopefully more knowledge can be gained regarding how these viruses cross species and cause pandemics.
